Moccasins Announce Head and Assistant Coach For The 2024/25 Season

Monroe, LA- The Monroe Moccasins are excited to announce the arrival of the first two coaches in the history of this iteration of the organization. Head Coach, Todd McIlrath and assistant coach, Darren Dougan come to Monroe to help bring a championship to the bayou.



Todd McIlrath was born in Northville, Michigan and began his playing career in the USHL playing for the Danville Wings and Indiana ice starting in 2003.  He went on to play three seasons of division 1 Collegiate Hockey at Bowling Green where he averaged just under 14 points a season.  After college he played in the AAHL , winning the league Championship, and then finished his playing career with the Fox City Ice Dogs in 2023 winning two more league championships in the process.  He has acted as the assistant coach for the Rochester Ice Hawks in the 2012 season and the head coach of the Chicago Jr. Bulldogs in 2015.


Former Monroe Moccasin, Darren Dougan was born in Azilda, Ontario Canada and began his playing career in 1989 with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL.  He played four seasons in the OHL before coming down to Monroe, Louisiana to play for the Original Monroe Moccasins.  He played four seasons with the Mocs, becoming the team’s All-Time Goal Score Leader.  After the original Moccasins folded, Dougan stayed in Louisiana to play for the Shreveport - Bossier City Mudbugs for one season before calling it a career.  Dougan stayed in Monroe and became a vital part of the city’s community.  Dougan worked as an insurance agent for 21 years.  Him and his wife Leah have two boys who attended Ouichata Christian.  His son, Drew starts at ULM in the fall to work towards becoming an insurance agent and his other son, Dillion, is on a great path to becoming an electrician.  His wife, Leah, works as the Controller at Robertson’s Produce after a 30 year career at Centurylink


“Now that our time as parents watching our boys play sports has ended, I am excited to have hockey back and have the opportunity to be involved in the coaching of the Moccasins.” Dougan said 


Both coaches bring an extensive knowledge of the game and look to bring a championship caliber team to the ice come October 11th. 


The Monroe Moccasins will have their first home game on October 11th @ 7PM at the Monroe Civic Center.
